We are presently in the book of Galatians, The Galatians, having launched their Christian experience by faith, seem content to leave their voyage of faith and chart a new course based on works a course Paul finds disturbing. His letter to the Galatians is a vigorous attack againt the gospel of works and a defense of the gospel of faith. The book is called Pros Galatas, "To the Galatians," and it is the only letter of Paul that is specifically addressed to a nuber of churches ("To the churches of Galatia,"1:2). The name Galatians was given to this Celtic people because they originally lived in Gaul before their migration to Asia Minor. It is almost shocking to discover that the problems of the church today are the same as they were over nineteen hundred years ago. We believe that the real problem today is that we have lost sight of the centrality of Christ crucified. We have lost sight of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That was the problem then, and it is still the problem now.
Calvary Chapel is a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our greatest desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations, as such. We are opposed only to the emphasis of non-biblical teachings that divide the Body of Christ. We believe the true basis of Christian fellowship is God's love, which is greater than our differences. Without His love, we have no right to say we are Christians.
